S. of England Veterans' Road Relay Champs. Aldershot 25th Sept.

Regrettably we had only one team competing this year that was the over 50's who kept up the tradition of Barnet being in the medals! There was not much to separate the first three teams, then a large gap of over two minutes before the 4th team finished. Oxford were in the lead for three legs, Brighton moved ahead on the last leg but despite Dave taking 44 seconds out of the Oxford man, could not catch him. Dave was the 5th fastest with Nigel gates being fastest with 19.15. Well done, a good team effort.

Southern League, Peterborough, 31 Jul  A fine performance considering we had a very depleted team, covering all the events was an achievement in itself. Not a bad start in Div 3, just keeping ahead of Enfield / Haringey - hope we have a few more recruits next year.

22 May, Southern Womens League, Cambridge The second match also turned out to be a tough one. We had a slight problem with availability, especially with the under 15s. Whilst it was disappointing to come last again, there were some really excellent performances, including a Club Record by the 4x400m relay team at the end of the match. Denise Gayle also equalled the CR for 100m, and Jill Dinsmore set a Vets CR for triple jump in her first attempt at the event. Jacqui Tarrant won a double on her first track performance for the club. We had a double in the 3000m and 1500m, and also won the 800m and 400m A strings. There was also a double in the high jump, with Eva Borza winning the B (also in her first event for the club). Asha Tranquille-Day won two second places in her three events.

22 May, Southern Mens League, Ware A gallant effort against some very high standard competition particularly in the sprints, jumps, throws and middle distance which just about covers everything. Met Police decided to turn up for this one despite missing the first fixture. I thought they were all blokes who ride round on motorbikes all day, obviously not. Thanks to Grant Ramsey and Daire Brennan (Trent Park) for their debut Barnet/TP track appearances and also good to see Mike Bennett competing once again in the Southern Lge. As for Chi - I don’t think he did enough warming up in between his 9 events. It was noticeable in the womens match they did far more drills, stretches, warm up routines - quite impressive, even distracting !!

16 May, Herts Champs, Watford We had a good crop of young athletes competing in the County Champs, in warm and sunny conditions. The highlight of the day was a mature performance from Niall Fleming, fresh from his 1500 metres win on May 3rd. He followed that up with a strong and confident win in the U13 boys 800 metres in a personal best, knocking 10 seconds off his previous best. Kath Woods also completed a double of 1500 metres on May 3rd and 800 metres here at Watford to win. Other notable performances came from Hannah Sheridan competing in her first county and on minimal coaching she came 4th in the U15 girls High Jump with a PB of 1 metre 40cm. 12 year old Victoria Bryant picked up 3 medals coming 2nd in 100 metres, 2nd in 200 metres in a PB and 3rd in High Jump. Victoria Dixon also picked up a bronze medal in the U13 100m. Asha Tranquille-Day gained a silver medal in the U15 Discus, and Erica Golland in a very competitive U17 Womens 100 gained a bronze medal.

15 May, Middlesex Champs, New River The women of the club performed well at the Middx Champs. Denise Gayle set a new Club Record in the 400m, while Jill Dinsmore set a Vets Club Record (javelin) and Rochelle Roach an U15 one in the Shot. She was very proud of her first gold medal too! After being at the Moon Walk all night, Tiffany did well to compete at all. As a result of her early season form Denise has been selected for the Middx representative team for two matches, including the Inter-Counties.

10 May, Advance Performance Midweek Road Race League, 10km Harlow The first race of this year’s series was on a pleasant out & back course on mainly traffic free paths. We had a good turn from the ladies, with an outstanding run from Jacqui finishing first lady & leading the team home to first place. Karen B. was 2nd lady & first V35, Jane D. was our 3rd scorer in a PB time, Helen H., Kirsty & Lucy, made up the rest of the scoring team. Well done to all who run, especially Fiona in her first race for the club. Maureen was 1st V55. With a number of our ladies unable to compete for varying reasons, this result shows the depth we have in our team now. Thanks must go to Mick Tappin for team managing on the day.

10 May, SC Vets League, Enfield An excellent start to the series, and a most enjoyable evening blessed with the best weather we can remember for this match. We had a really good show of sprinters and the distance runners brought in their usual high tally of points. Jill won the high jump again and brought the relay team home in an exciting finish, which we think may be a club record. What I found most pleasing was having three non-scoring runners out, giving themselves an opportunity to test the legs and see what they could do without being under too much pressure, as well as showing the opposition that we have depth in reserve.
