| 4th Mar | Chingford League 5K Road Race. Eastway |
The final league race saw us have the first two places in the mens and
womens races, to seal the womens and Vets overall titles. First race win
for Richard, just pipping Andy, and a great breakthrough run by James
Taylor. |
| 2nd Mar | Herts County Veterans’ 5 Mile Cross Country Championships. Letchworth |
Good runs from Des who retained his “Title” and from Martin. We were
not able on the day to field full teams in either a 50’s or a 60’s team.
Details received prior to the race stated “Individuals may score in the
next youngest team if they do not have a team in their age group”. Our
T.M. Stephen H. officially advised prior to the race that our 60’s would
move down in the race and was told that this would be reflected in the
results. After the race he was told that they could not as it was two
races. Although everyone raced together! |
| 22nd Feb | National Cross Country Champs, Parliament Hill |
On a most pleasant sunny day the "National" returned to P.H.F's after
an absence of 10 years. Although the course was reasonably dry the mud
was extremely sticky making it a very hard and testing course. Well done
to all who competed for us. |
| 15/16th Feb | British Masters Indoor Champs, Glasgow | Dave Wilcock won two gold medals in the National
Vets Indoor Champs, as part of his build-up to the European indoors. M45: 800m 1st 2-02.17, 1500m 1st 4-17.96, 3000m 5th 9-38.91 |
| 8th Feb | WSEH Indoor Open | A huge number of entrants meant that there were 36 sprint races, which included many athletes trying to reach the qualifying standards for the AAA's indoors. It was a good experience for us all with newcomer Jeremy doing well in his first race for 10 years. 60m Chi Tsang 7.4s, Jeremy Arnold 7.9s, Vicky Hyland 8.4s, Amy Dolan 9.3s |

| 28th Sept | Southern Road Relays. Rushmore Arena, Aldershot |
We only had one "Vets" team running but they did us proud by racing well
to win the O/50 silver medals which replicated the achievement of last
year. However, they were 22 seconds faster on this occasion. Tony Cousins
had an exceptionally good race and was the fifth fastest O/50 on the day
equaling the time achieved by Grenville Tuck! The seniors also had a good
performance equaling their best ever finishing position of two years ago
but improving on their overall time by just over two minutes. |
| 14th Sept | Chingford League 2¼ Mile Road Relay. Highams Park |
Women: Our ladies started the new season where they had left off
last March, with a very fine win. Not only did our "A" team lead from
"gun to tape" they all recorded the fastest times on their respective
stages. Karen set the fastest time of the day with Katherine being the
third fastest overall. |
| 8th Sept | Schering-Plough Garden City 10 Mile Road Race. Welwyn |
The official winner was Frank Dudbridge of Thames Hare & Hounds in a
time of 55:21. A South African runner arrived late (his train was delayed)
and started after everybody had gone through the first 70 metres from
the start line, inside the school. He started from the gate at the main
road and proceeded to plough his way through the field, crossing the finish
line first, in just over 50 mins. Naturally, he was disqualified but gave
us all a big thrill to see a class athlete wiz by in great style. Des
was 1st M50 Open, 1st M50 Herts Vets. Karen was 5th Lady, 1st F35 Open,
2nd F35 Herts Vets. Barnet 3rd Men’s Team in Herts Vets – Des, Reg, Rodger
& Graham. |
