Metro Aberdeen Running Club

County Affiliation: Scotland

Email: Jackie Stewart

WWW:

The club meets twice a week, Tuesdays at the Aberdeen Sports Village on Linksfield Road, changing facilities are available, you only pay at reception for the use of the showers etc. if you wish to use them. No access to the track though, meet in the foyer area ready to run at 6:30 pm. We then head off round the Bridge of Don area in the winter and use the tracks round the Don and Seaton Park areas in the summer. Every Tuesday we have an experienced club member allocated to look out for new members and "show them the ropes" so to speak, they will have a chat and see what distance/speed you are running at and place you with a group of runners at a similar standard. Groups head off doing anything from 5 to 10 miles on various routes. During the summer months we also organise occasional Tuesday runs away from the club at places like Kirkhill Forest, Hill of Fare, Scolty Forest, Hazlehead and Duthie Park etc and on the first Tuesday of the month we encourage members to take part in a structured speed session at Seaton Park or Broadhill in the summer and areas near the Sports Village in the winter. On Thursdays we meet at the Hazlehead Park Groats Road entrance car park ready to go at 5:45 and do a structured session to hopefully help you run a wee bit faster regardless of the standard you are at, the session changes each week to keep it interesting, there are no changing or showering facilities at this session. (This may be the better one to start with as you are no more than 500 metres from the start at any time) At other times like weekends groups of similar standard runners often meet up for longer runs depending on what they are training for. We also do a session which is usually attended by the junior members at Duthie Park on a Sunday morning at 10:00am, this is techniques/drills and speed session. But adults are welcome to come along and some do. The cost to join the club is currently £25 per year and that's it, we don't charge for any of the weekly sessions, you only pay if you use the changing on a Tuesday. For this fee you will get weekly e-mail updates of what's going on in the area and with the club, discounted club kit, access to discounted physiotherapy, discounts at the running shops in Aberdeen, access to our club coaches that will help you along the way if required, we also organise social events and car sharing or mini busses to events from time to time. So it's pretty much up to yourself how much or little you want to be involved but if you feel like coming along and having a go and see how you get on then please let me know and I will make sure the new members helper looks out for you on the Tuesday night or if on a Thursday just come to the car park at Hazlehead and introduce yourself to any of the members and we will get you sorted out. Any other questions then please let us know.
