Club Training Sessions

Monday 7-8 pm
The session takes place at Holy Cross school and is for senior athletes of all abilities. This is a coached session that revolves around a rep session. The session varies from week to week but is based around 6-8km in total. The reps also vary from summer to winter. In the summer we train on the grass track at the school so we work on speed endurance on the flat. In the winter we train on the roads around the school and will do a variety of reps including hills (up and down) and some speed work but the emphasis at this time is on endurance. This is a good session if you are starting out as the session in based around a start and finish point that is never more than 1/2 mile away so it is easy to cater for a variety of abilities. We have runners who range in speed from 5.20 minute miles to 12 minute miles.

Thursday 7.30 pm
This session starts at Chorley Cricket Club and is for senior athletes who have some endurance and are able to run approximately 10k in about 1 hour (give or take). There are usually 2 -3 groups who go out on a run - There is usually a fast group and a group that are less fast. The groups are dependent on who turns up each week - the sessions are not coached. Runs vary in speed and length depending on weather and light at any given time of year. Runs will be either on the road or over the local hills/fells in the summer when light allows. Meet in the Cricket club bar before 7.30 to sort out which would be the most suitable group to join. There are showering facilities and access to the bar after the run for socialising with other runners (and cricketers).

Thursday 6.30-7.30
There are two sessions, one for sprinters and one for endurance athletes. The sessions take place on the track behind Bolton Arena every Thursday from 18:30 to 19:30. The cost is £2 for adults and £1 for concessions and juniors. Session content varies every week, but both are planned by experienced senior coaches. The great thing about track is that you are never more than 200m away from others, and it is thus ideal for complete beginners and experienced athletes alike. The Sprint Session is intended for sprinters looking to complete at 100m, 200m, 400m, 110 High Hurdles and/or 400m hurdles. Sessions typically include long warm ups and cool downs to avoid injury, followed by practice with starts, running technique, strength and endurance. The Endurance Session is intended for runners looking to complete at 400m upto 10K, on road, trail or track. Sessions typically include long warm ups and cool downs to avoid injury, repeats or 200m upto 800m with timed recoveries.
